The Footy is Back! A bbq guide to kick it off. - The Meat Store

Finally! We have made it to March and the NRL & AFL seasons have kicked off again. What better way to celebrate the high of those big wins & the spiralling lows of a loss ( there is always next week) than with a delicious home BBQ.

Whether you're a die-hard fan of the Roosters or the Sharks, or you're backing the Swans or the Tigers, there's nothing quite like firing up the grill and cooking up some mouth-watering meats to enjoy with family & friends.

So, what are the best meats to BBQ for the game? Here are some top picks to get your taste buds tingling:

  1. Beef Patties - You can't go wrong with a classic beef burger. Made from our quality grass fed beef, and top with your favourite toppings like cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion. We blend a secret mix of cuts chosen for their unique fat to meat ratio which is then coarse ground and formed by hand. Seasoned with salt, pepper.
  2. Thick BBQ Sausages - Named after the BBQ itself. The humble sausage is easy to cook and always a crowd-pleaser. Made from 100% Grass Fed Aussie Beef & Lamb, simply flavoured with subtle spices. They have just enough fat to baste the meat whilst they cook. Ideal for grilling & pan frying. Also made from natural casings & gluten free!
  1. Chicken Wings - Finger-licking good, chicken wings are perfect for snacking on during the game. Marinate them in a spicy BBQ sauce or rub them with a delicious blend of herbs and spices before grilling. No cutlery required.

  2. USA Pork Ribs - If you're feeling fancy & have some extra time on your hands, go for some slow-cooked ribs. They take a bit longer to prepare, but the end result is well worth it. Smother in your favourite BBQ sauce and finished on a hot BBQ. The meat in between the ribs is tender, sweet & full of flavour. All our pork is APIQ Certified free range from Borrowdale & RSPCA approved.

  3. Lamb Loin Chops - For a taste of Australia try grilling up some succulent lamb chops. A versatile cut from the loin with the added inner fillet and the bone to intensify the flavour when cooked on the bbq. Season with garlic, rosemary, and lemon zest for a flavourful twist. We proudly source all our Lamb from the Victoria & Riverina regions known for their succulent flavour, tenderness and light pink colour.
